Hey, unrelated, but since you mentioned dot files, I heard you can back up your dot files for your macOS configuration and then perfectly replicate your install configurations If you have to reset your machine. Is that true? Do you know anything about that?

Many tools promise this nirvana. None, in my experience, deliver. fig is another attempt. As noted below, nix is another, but it's proven completely unmanageable for me on macOS.
