The lawnmower wouldn't start today and I remembered what my dad used to tell me - the three things an engine needed to fire were gas, spark, and air.

The gas tank was filled.

Spark plugs looked good.

I then took the air filter off.

Bingo. We have ignition.

Time to clean the air filter and pass the foundational tribal knowledge forward.

You forgot compression. Test this by taking out the spark plug and covering the hole with your thumb while you pull the cord

... but you can usually tell if something is wrong if the cord pulls too easy.
