Coffee makers without a hotplate are abomination.
Not if it has insulated carafe. That is much better.

Mine does but after a couple of hours . . . it's kind gross.
Exactly. I drink all the coffee while it's hot. If I need more later then I grind by hand what I need and refill the french press.
