I can think of plenty incentives, #1 Freedom to share thoughts without censorship. #2 premium relays operators can charge to use #3 If it goes with a product that is profitable or supported already then that’s an incentive. It’s the same type of argument as bitcoin failing because of lack of node operators.
The more doubts, the easier it is to spot true supporters.

you run ip node with nostr, i run ip node with nostr, everybody runs ip node with nostr. make this all thats needed. cut the addtl specialized parties. true p2p everything on the edges. we all already have our ip addresses on our sides, our ip provider contract, that should be all thats needed. too bad we all renting out rackspace and real estate in telco and similar companies and all these ancient concepts. we are all already *the* internet. so, when??

It turns out that it's the opposite. People will pay to use a relay, but not to use a client, as apps are not services.
