Alysha Duran did not need to die. The police officer clearly panicked when he saw a gun, as evidenced by the "oh fuck". Up until that point he had calmly handled the situation. But we train police officers to use deadly force at the slightest hint of danger, even if it goes against their common sense. They are militarized and brainwashed to see the citizenry as their enemy in some imaginary war.
