Napoleon Bonaparte was Corsican not Italian. He was born in 1769. In 1768 Genoa officially ceded Corsica to Louis XV of France and it was annexed by France. Therefore Bonaparte was French.

At no point was Corsica ever Italian. It was Genoan from 1284-1755 until its secession to become an independent republic. The Republic of Genoa was not part of Italy.
