Being generous to Dan... he is convinced that Bitcoin, even with LN, is not ready to be a medium of exchange. Therefore he thinks that any attempt to create a real Bitcoin economy is doomed and a waste of time... and that all these videos of Bitcoin payments are performative or directly fake.

He does not understand how far things have progressed. Even if volumes are low and the percentage of Bitcoin payments are not significant for merchants now.... things have to start somewhere. If the future is one where Bitcoin payments are frequent and used by many... this is how it would start, with small experiments and testing. Circular economies, small communities working on a Bitcoin standard... creating roads that others will follow when the time is right.

Nostr is the perfect exampel. Maybe if he was here he would start to get it.

I can sympathise with Dan's frustration. I participated in earlier attempts to create Bitcoin payment ecosystems and saw them eventually peter out due to lack of interest. I could have reached the same conclusions as him and given up. In fact for a long time I concluded that it was too early and stopped trying...

But with the rise of Lightning Network and the amazing improvements in UX and ease of use I see a much higher probability of success.

It still is early, but you have to start somewhere. There is a lot of testing and UX improvement that has to be done, but you learn by doing. You improve by trial and error.

What nostr:npub1lr2zzf989mvf393y0tv39ara6a4vddkd6y87z784up9vl6ks6j3qtudl6a and others are doing is very valuable. It's hard work to be early, have to explain everything, have every step be hard work.... but in a few years we will look back and see that it was absolutely necessary and heroic work!
