In February 1962, just before signing the embargo that banned all Cuban imports, President John F. Kennedy made a bold move.

He secretly asked his press secretary to secure 1,200 of his favorite Cuban cigars — H. Upmann Petit Coronas — before the law kicked in.

The next morning, once the cigars were in hand, JFK officially banned them.
