I’m an industrial & systems engineer but I’ll let it slide because it’s “imaginary engineering.”
That's my origin actually, converted to software engineering later. System engineering gives some unique perspective like seeing the bigger picture (super system interactions), and foresight into things underestimated by others such as costs of shutting down a system.
