This is the Porpita porpita (Blue Button).

These guys are not just one critter but a whole colony!

The original polyp is anchored to a solid substrate and forms a bud which remains attached to its parent.

This in turn buds and in this way a stem is formed.

The arrangement of polyps and the branching of the stem is characteristic of the species.

The Blue Button looks like a jelly but is not infact a jellyfish, it is actually a chondrophore which are closely related to siphonophores (includes Portuguese man o' war).

These guys are found drifting on the surface of the ocean looking very pretty!
