Will our TheForest.gitcitadle.eu calls tap into that bucket, or so NFDB customers get a separate payment scheme?
Discussion
No your relays are not handled by the OSS fund. They are handled under the sponsorship program.
It cannot qualify for the OSS infra fund anyway as it is a paid service and does not allow everyone to use it.
For example, if you did a free translation feature, it would count. Anti-spam fees are allowed but it must go to the OSS infra fund
Ah, but TheCitadel.gitcitadel.eu is a public relay, so that one would qualify? That's the one used to build the landing page and it's a free service.
I actually prefer the pooled option, as it makes the client more attractive for nonsubscribers, and subscribers will have access to our own servers.
We can just contribute to the infrastructure fund.
Is it public for writes as well?
Yup. It just doesn't accept all kinds, like kind 1 and 1111. It's for longform, documents, wiki pages, publications, note-taking, etc.
TheForest carries the social kinds.
Then it is covered.
I like the idea of contributing to the fund. We receive donations from people because they expect us to be altruistic, do-gooders, so it's on-brand.
The infra fund is also cheaper. One is a commercial service with full support, another is supporting OSS
The rules are simple
- You must state you are using the OSS infra fund so people can donate
- You must make your benefits available to everyone at no charge, excluding anti-spam measures
- You may not use any API responses or other resources from the OSS infra fund for paid services
- An exemption is provided if the fees go fully to the OSS infra fund
Otherwise, you can use what you need, if it is fair.
