🇧🇷 Nearly a third of Brazilians live below the poverty line. For those people, using the land and its resources is a matter of survival. Some experts and farmers believe that if people can make a living off land that has already been cleared, they won't need to cut down more rainforest.

I wouldn’t say 1/3 is below the poverty line. Brazil produces food and feeds 1/5 of world population. So, nobody dies of hungry here. But due to corruption from politics in current executive government position it is true that many people can’t get a job and have access to a education of good quality that capacities them to think with critical sense to properly discuss many subjects with deep knowledge

According to recent studies, about 30% of the Brazilian population lived below the poverty line in 2021. This means that almost one in three people in the country, or 29.4% of the population, lived in poverty until at least last year, and almost one in ten people, or 8.4%, struggled under extreme poverty. The number of people living below the poverty line was up 22.7% in 2021, and Brazil had 62.5 million people in poverty (daily income below $5.5) and 17.9 million in extreme poverty (daily income below $1.90, as defined by the World Bank)
