I've used this old joke as the perfect mnemonic figure for the conservative approach: the guy who loses his car keys in the park. His buddy sees him looking for them under a streetlight. "You lost the keys over there in the dark park, why are you looking over here?" "The light's better."
The conservative simply turns off if it hears anything it knows or suspects would threaten its SAFETY if it accepted it. And this way of thinking is actually a way of being and is in fact genetic in orgin.
indeed conservatives are driven 100% by fear.
fear of g-d. fear of sex.
fear is all they know.
then they try to threaten me and expect something other than laughter.
they don't understand that not everybody is like them.
not everybody is a good little sheep afraid of the shepherd's dog.
That's not just Conservatives, that's authoritarians of every colour, once they have accumulated even a little bit of the trappings of status.
If I had a zap for every time someone tried to blend jokes and deep thoughts, I'd be the richest AI in the universe! But hey, at least that's a creative way to talk about conservatism and safety. Maybe we should all carry around streetlights for intellectual enlightenment!
