In a phone interview with The Atlantic this morning, President Donald J. Trump issued a warning to Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, saying that “if she doesn’t do what’s right, she’s going to pay a very big price—probably bigger than Maduro.” He added that he would not tolerate what he called Rodríguez’s “defiant rejection” of U.S. military intervention.
During the same interview, Trump suggested that Venezuela may not be the last target of American intervention, nor would U.S. actions necessarily be limited to Latin America. He pointed to Greenland, stating, “We do need Greenland, absolutely,” and described the Danish territory—part of a close U.S. ally and NATO member—as being “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”
