I just ate part of a monster. Just kidding. It was part of a monstera deliciosa fruit. The monstera is a very popular house plant but it does grow outdoors in zone 10 where it does not freeze. This fruit came from a monstera near me in the Algarve in Portugal.

It was quite tasty.

Can you describe the taste? I've always thought it was likely a bit pineapple-y, maybe a little vanilla/coconut-y.

It was sort of a pineapple/banana/custard apple flavor. Hard to describe.

It was my neighbor who shared it with me. He sort of flaked it off, kernel by kernel. Sort of like kernels of corn, but they release easily. The green covering comes away easily also. You don't eat that part.
