if you have time and money to take a Chinese class I highly suggest it. I have so much fun learning and writing Chinese characters. It's like a window to another world. Super Zen. I wake up and practice writing Chinese characters everyday.
If you have a 4 year degree You can always get a job teaching English over seas so it's not a total waste of money.
When I was young, my first job was as a teacher, teaching Chinese.

I wish I had gone and taught English right after college. Would have made traveling much easier.
