Basically it adds proof of work for generating extra digits on the hash of your Nostr posts. It's a way to require CPU power and energy to post intended to deter spammers.

Because of that it doesn't usually have support for mobile clients since it'd drain battery. Some desktop and browser clients support it but not all. The NIP is still a draft.
