Depends on how much there is, in proportion to everything else on screen. But yeah, I'd generally go for a subtle shade as pure white is more strenuous to look at
hmm okay, was thinking along those lines myself too
If I'm using white it's because I'm using black and white, in which case I will use full black and full white.
If I'm not doing a 2-tone image, I'm not using white for any big area of the screen
I forgot I would also use pure white for an object that's supposed to be pure white, like a soyjak's skin
