Navy ships back in the days use to have decals like in this picture. I wonder what happened

Pre ww1 yes. I watch this channel called My lunch Break on YouTube and he was showing old pics of boats and ships with decals and a lot of painted stripes from army ships. I cant find pics just from Google when i find the segment agian on YouTube i will note it.
It’s called “Dazzle” - the idea, was to make it harder to distinguish a ship from the waves.
Radar came along and made it obsolete.
