I shifted to recommending Pop over Mint to newer people just because it looks nicer for most normal users. Mint is pretty damn solid though, and has the added benefit of a large and old network. You can just add "linux mint" to google for any linux problem, and someone out there has had that issue already and solved it. Sometimes even over a decade ago!
