Why is this? I’m genuinely perplexed by it

For society to work the majority have to be followers. They will go with the consensus no matter how many times it hurts them because to them it is psychologically safer than being other sheeple calling them weird.

Vision and courage.
Very few people have vision.
And only a small minority of those have the courage to act in the face of ridicule and intimidation.
Most people would rather be wrong and accepted than risk being right and ostracized.
Most people struggle to think independently
