A name is given to you, like your life is given to you. You may have some input on the matter, but ultimately it’s the act of receiving the name that makes it real. It’s a part of being embedded in the continuous being of humanity through time, a name identifies you in that relationship with all other humans.
Yup, that is the essence of Saul Kripke’s book, Naming and Necessity.
