Do it bro, but choose wisely where to go. I'm from there, my town is pretty damn ugly though 😂😂

Where specifically would be best?

Actually what would be the best places to avoid?

Mainstream must visit locations to visit are:

Palermo, majestic capital of the region, choke full of history in every corner. Its highlights include the beautiful cathedral with both Gothic and Norman influences.

Piazza della Vergogna, Piazza Politeama, Quattro Canto, Giardino Inglese, Orto Botanico, Foro Italico, Palazzo Cinese, Quartiere Kalsa, Sferracavallo, Isola Delle Femmine and Monreale are amazing place to visit.

If you want to eat, visit all three major markets: Ballarò, Vucciria e Capo. Palermo is also the capital of street food (all typical products of course).

Typical places where to eat are Nino u Ballerino (a chef that dances while preparing the famous pani cu a meusa, a panino with cow heart, lungs and liver, fried in lard).

These are just the highlights, you can dive deeper just for Palermo.

Catania is also beautiful, but I don't know it as well as Palermo.

If you want a natural experience, all the Riserva dello Zingaro near Trapani is amazing for trekking and beaches.

If it's historical places that you crave, Valle dei Templi in Agrigento is the largest historical site in all Europe, with stunning view of the remains of an ancient Greek acropolis.

Selinunte, Siracusa, Ragusa and Segesta have splendid temples as well.

I can keep going lol

Absolutely avoid the majority of little towns inside the minor provinces. While they can offer something, it's not worth the abysmal trip inland.
