there’s just no use in trying anymore. i didn’t want to get sick and not be able to pay any of my bills. i loved working, i had the best job. i can’t stop crying and looking at all the overdue bills. one month of sickness and i’ve turned into this complete fucking failure. i don’t know what else to do anymore.

It's akin to asking why someone living below your standard of living doesn't just buy more things to improve their situation. I'm not saying she's living in poverty, but why assume she's got access to funds? It's sounds like she's going through a tough time. Pour some gas on the fire and tell her to sell an asset she might not have.
