Very true. I've always done this (except for my first channel which was to ACINQ).
The big advantage is that we are always able to clear up any issues that might come up: node offline for a while, routing fees change, reopening the channel as unannounced, etc.

I am dreaming of times when I will know personally at least one maximalist. Having lightning channels only with friends and partners will feel like heaven.
