I bring up the Roman Empire a the time. My wife has never mocked me for it. She must not be aware of the memes. She would have been justified in doing so, though. We watched Ben Hur recently, and I increased the already great length of the movie 30% by constantly pausing it to make some point about the Romans. 😏

This is amazing. I hope we meet IRL some day! 😆

Never seen Ben Hur. Looks like that’s on my film list now. 😂

It is very good. 👍

It feels like a blockbuster shot in the 50s, but it was a massive event movie at the time.

Ben Hur, the 1959 one, is one of the best movies men ever created!

Lew Wallace's book is under-read.

Americans were fixated on the Romans in the 50s and early 60s. Movies like Cleopatra, Sparticus, and Ben Hur were enormous draws. It was an extension of the Hollywood on the Tiber period, that included sappy films like Roman Holiday. It was as though the GIs came home from WWII believing they had just defeated the Persians and were ready for their Empire.

Got to love these films as well:

300

300: Rise of an Empire

Gladiator

Pompeii

Ben Hur is so good
