Yes! There is a good reason ancient cultures from around the world seemingly share symbols 😄
I've seen a few theories on that symbol. Some were more compelling than others.
One I liked noted that the Big Dipper rotates around the North Star (currently Polaris) annually,. If we were to take time lapse photographs of the Big Dipper and Polaris on the solstices and equinoxes, and then combine them all onto a single image, we would see something similar to this symbol.
The other theory I've seen that I find most compelling is related to that same "swirling pattern" that the Big Dipper takes annually around Polaris. The Milky Way galaxy is a spiral shape, and according to a number of ancient religious traditions, the path of the ascending human soul after leaving Earth is to follow the Milky Way. That symbol may have been used to represent the afterlife or the path souls take in the afterlife.
According to the work of James Churchward, the sun tends to be represented by a simple circle, sometimes with a dot in the center, sometimes shown with rays, sometimes shown without rays in order to represent the setting sun. I'm not saying Churchward is 100% right but I do find his work to be pretty interesting and compelling in select ways.
