Ahh I worded my question very poorly. I knew about the subscription backups but that's a non-starter for me. I admittedly tuned out during that part but are they backing up the full device memory in that subscription or just the keystore? I was looking more for a way to export an encrypted blob of the filesystem manually without relying on Foundation for anything in the future but still keep my files/auth keys.

I heard them discuss the app store but missed the side load part. That's huge win. Still hope there's an option for using a third party store instead of using Foundation's repos.

SEED BACKUP - By default (though it is COMPLETELY optional) we shamir the seed into a 2-of-3. Two go onto the provided NFC keycards and one is sent to be store into the secure enclave of your phone.

DATA BACKUP - As part of the default, but optional 'Magic Backup', device app data is encrypted locally, sent to Envoy and then uploaded to the FD server.

Don't wanna use NFC card? Write down your seed.

Don't wanna use Magic Backups? Write down your seed and download the encrypted backup file to store offline.

We will have super easy defaults, but they will always be optional. Choose your own journey.

This is excellent news. Device is way more interesting knowing I'll be able to do my own backups. How does the backup handle imported seeds that aren't from master? Are they bundled into encrypted backup with the other data or do those need to be stored separately and reimported?

Is the device intended to stay on with you throughout the day or be booted as needed?

What kind of battery times are you getting out of the battery with the OS in its infancy? I'm sure that will only improve as updates come along but just curious if this can be ready for a days work of signing messages as needed remotely or if you'll need to be adding juice.

If the device is off what's the boot time from off to home screen? Along the same lines how fast is this processor able to open apps to get things like 2FA keys from the home screen to the 2FA app?

This is more of a curiousity than anything but why not include a password manager into the base of this device? This seems like a core functionality that would be built as an account feature that ties into the 2FA/FIDO functions. I was expecting that after the mention in the intro of how lots of users are left using the same password. Is this something that might get added to the core device? 🤞

Completely up to you and how you use it. But if you wanna leverage 2FA, security keys and future Nostr and password managers, then it makes sense to.

Untested to that extent right now, but I can provide more info in the coming weeks.

15-20s with PIN entry

Instant. Just like opening an app on your phone.

Mainly just finding that balance between getting to market with a product vs making it literally perfect. Yes it will be added next year.

99% certain they'll be bundled into the encrypted data, but I'll double check and give you a definitive tomorrow.

To be honest, long term I see us giving users even more choice to choose what is and isn't saved to the encrypted blob. Should be pretty easy to do.

Ok for backup it does say the entire device is encrypted and backed up on the video. That's cool! Let's hope there's a manual option as well.

I'm confused about the key backup though. It says none of your keys will ever be uploaded to foundation, but if you're using their new add a key that's not a child seed then it seems they would have to upload something.
