Regarding deciding between using Fusion 360 and free CAD...

For hobby and prosumer use, FreeCAD is the way to go.

I will never be cut out of my CAD data, will never be forced to pay for it, and will never have to learn another CAD program. In 30 years, if things hold together for me, I'll likely still be using FreeCAD for my creative inventiveness. As an occasional user doing moderately complex things, that is a big deal. None of these programs are particularly easy to learn, and my goal is not to learn CAD programs, my goal is to do stuff.

When Fusion 360 and the like can do that for me, maybe I'll be back. But they won't, because that's not how they are.

And FreeCAD is said to run great on Linux. Linux is not my current operating system, but it is my preferred operating system
