I had been listening to hiphop for years mostly recording radio play to cassettes for years.
But the first album I bought was Hard to Earn.
I changed after that experience
He was at my wedding… Take A Rest was on the playlist.
Tapes were the one! I used to spend hours taping pirate radio back in the day, was more the UK breaks and bleeps stuff before Jungle but those tapes hold such special place. I still think those radio tapes sound better than vinyl. The hiss, interference and compression create such a vibey sound.
I’ve recently been digitising them since I inherited a tape deck.
