#askNostr I’ve been using Backblaze to backup my laptop (with my own private key) for several years, but some recent product glitches have me considering alternatives. Does anyone have recommendations based on personal experience? Thanks in advance.

Same - I'm self hosting now with SyncThing

Do you mean you’re looking for an alternative to SyncThing, or that you’ve moved to it?

I'm using it instead of Backblaze, syncing to home server

I run Nextcloud locally, and both filebase.com & storj.io as my off-sites.

Do you host a storj node and if so what money do they pay in or is it KYC?

Nah, no node. From the documentation, no kyc for mining. However, there's probably kyc for hosting since they'll be sending you a check. I assume some form of record keeping for their investors. Damn, now I need to rethink whether I wanna host a node now. 🤔

Ohh mining.

I use rclone's encryption feature a lot, which allows me to put my stuff anywhere. Right now, I use a Wasabi S3-ish storage that is entirely encrypted with information only I know, meaning Wasabi doesn't even know what's on their servers. With that, I can mount this storage on Linux and Windows and I plan to drop my backups there as a third location in my backup chain.

That said, rclone is a command line tool and doesnt have that many GUI tools. There is RClone Browser, which is good, but certainly not the be-all-end-all of GUIs. But it get's the job done.
