I began with still super simple Java, statements, operators etc, continuing with Part 1 of the Helsinki course.

Whilst coding today, in the background I've had programmes like Cheers, Frasier and The King of Queens on. I believe light-hearted sitcoms with morals and family values have the power to save the world. They may be what we need, everything's a bit intense and serious these days isn't it?

Today I've simply been working on a few coding challenges to finish off part one of the course and the mathematical component.

I have been somewhat distracted by the news of Musk's new choice of CEO for Twitter. I am incredibly disappointed and surprised. I am aware that the intention is to set up a site which facilitates free speech, so I imagine the reasoning for his choice was that hiring someone with radically liberal viewpoints would balance out his purported (as of late) conservative viewpoints and therefore appeal to the maximum amount of people by giving them the sense that their views are also held by people in management. The person he has hired has been involved in some incredibly questionable activities in the past which gives me concern about what the future of Twitter may hold in regards to censorship and freedom. I'm sure Twitter 2.0 will have a future with this safe, corporate option, but it's saddening that it likely will not be a beacon of internet freedom like I believed it would be.

I believe that a better solution to ensuring a platform remains fair and free may have been to hire someone who is politically neutral or a freedom loving individual. To me, there is a question of integrity. It seems to me as though moves like this may have been done to maximise profits by appealing to corporations and the masses over furthering ideals and values whilst also profiting, allowing the empowerment of people through those values to guide and maximise profits. Personally, I have always been a very values driven person, it's what gives me a reason to get out of bed, nihilism does not appeal to me, if nothing has any meaning, why go on? Which is a reason why, for many years now, Musk has been a hero of mine. I am deeply in love with the ideas of innovation, freedom, both on the internet and offline, including speech, anti-censorship, net neutrality and for individuals to retain power to manifest their own destiny via decentralisation. One of the reasons I'm feeling down this evening is because it has made me question whether the person who I have looked up to for many years might not be who I thought they were. I hope I am proven wrong.
