This is appalling, don’t get me wrong. But I think the US has been engaged in “coin-clipping” for decades. If a penny today were pure copper it would be worth, well, much more than a penny. Our cash is symbolic and not tied to any base metals as I’m sure you know. Rome 2.0 💯
