I don't think anyone has changed their opinion on anything.
In fact it might be impossible for people to change their opinions on anything ever.
Playing the devil's advocate I would ask:
how could we be sure that a soft-fork proposal would not be contaminated by three-letter-agencies, given their now obvious interest into crippling Bitcoin?
I don't think any true bitcoiner wants ossification, but statists and state agents do.
There is plenty of work to do left.
