Are you saying that this is due to the sheer number of people you are following? Relays/apps are selective, or choking?

Or when you say active you think people who post almost daily, you don't want to follow people who post occasionally?

I’m not sure tbh. But if I visit some profiles manually I see recent notes but they never show up in my feed

Yes, see what you mean. I miss a lot of posts from the people I would love to see, haven't checked time stamps though when visiting their profiles. I though that this is simply because feeds are chronological and there is no algo to prioritize posts from the people I interact with often.

Could be a relay problem, when you do not view their relays. Since then you get only notes, that get federated to relays within your view.
