Instead of personal attacks, why not talk about the substance of his argument?
What argument? He lolled and then tried to make some sort of example. These arent genuinely curious people. They just want to bully and gaslight.

Why is it structured that way if so?
I think there is a genuine conversation to be had about that fundamental decision, and an opportunity to bring the combo back to why you wanted to build it with those design decisions in the first place.
Even if they are "those kind of people" (not making that judgement myself), why not rise above instead of lowering to attacks on them?
I guess I am curious to hear more about the project, and understand the points above.
