I worked for a renewable energy company based in Texas a few years ago. I brought up the idea of using bitcoin mining to load balance their solar and wind assets and not only was I laughed at in a meeting where they had originally said “All ideas are welcome here” but later one of the bosses messaged me and told me to never bring up “crypto” again if I knew what was good for me.

I didn’t last 18 months there.

Ah that sucks! Never, ever believe a boss who says "all ideas are welcome". No matter how diplomatic you are, they'd better be her ideas rephrased, and I believe one can smuggle at most one sentence of sense inside it...

When asked if this was an actual company policy or simply someone’s opinion, I was told that they had been directed from the top to not even mention bitcoin or crypto publicly because it was considered too risky for their investors and they thought it would turn away customers and discourage the types of candidates they wanted to attract. They even made me shut down my bitcoin discussion Slack channel.

"all ideas are welcome" and "no bad vibes" are both red flags for a cult

Along with, “We’re a family here.” 🤣

no, there is only one cure for psychopathy: get the fuck away

once you are becoming aware that this person is a narcissistic piece of shit if you don't slowly back away like it's an angry cobra you really can't blame anyone else for not doing the right thing

oh, sure, most of them don't want to grind you up in wood chipper, most of them are happy to enslave you for as long as you are stupid enough to stay in range of them and continue to fall for their endless apologies for everyone else's fault except them

The issue of understanding in the power industry as it relates to #bitcoin definitely needs to be to be overcome.

They didn’t want my input. I worked in marketing. I couldn’t possibly have an understanding of this stuff. 😏
