After many, many weeks of reading, I have yet to see one single lucid answer to this question that is screaming to be asked:

What massive Bitcoin emergency is there right now -- or could there ever be -- that "requires" us to massively and suddenly change the protocol to allow endless 100 kB chunks of slop on our blockchain?

Also: I advise being skeptical of the motivations of "influencers" who refuse to at least ask this very fundamental question.
