during the unfolding of the assasination, i saw an interesting pattern online. Amidst all of the different takes, claimed experts, and 'breaking news' claims, i saw what i believe were State, or contracted actors practicing an interesting form of disinformation. Rather than try to discredit crowd research flows up front, they identify the front edge of the research, and then seed false trails. And the false trails lead to conclusions which are later used to discredit groups or ideas.

Example:

The idea that there may have been more than one shooter. This idea was attacked with this kind of disinformation attack more than almost anything else. 'Insider' stories popping up with photos of people on water towers, claims of ziplines, proof of FBI involvment, etc etc. Its like a steering attack. If you cant stop people looking into things, you can steer the momentum in the wrong direction, and then use it to discredit them later.

Dont get me wrong, people do make ridiculous wild claims all on their own, but the intentional disinformation kind have a different vibe.
