There's nothing wrong with being prepared to defend your life or the lives of you family. However, one should be mindful about how hastily they jump to violence as the answer.

Yes. My set standards for deadly force or imminent threat of death or grievous bodily harm, or loss of major property via theft/coercion. Outside of that, de-escalation and escape are preferable ways to move beyond a conflict.

I’d happily kill anyone who harms my family. However the bitcoin not bullets wasn’t literal, more a statement of intent

And I think seeking peace is certainly the preferable first step.
