Unless there are purists who insist on preserving its original ethos, Bitcoin could drift over decades and dissolve into nothing more than a marketplace for “blockspace.” That is why maximalism matters. It is not a religion, as critics sometimes claim, but an immune system—a way of defending the organism from slow cultural erosion.
