This planned 51% attack simulation by Qubic was known and anticipated by the Monero community. Qubic, led by Sergey Ivancheglo, announced openly its plan to control more than 50% of Monero’s network hashrate during August 2025 as an economic demonstration to highlight vulnerabilities in Proof of Work networks.

Even before the attack began, the Monero community noticed this movement and reacted strongly by organizing a coordinated boycott against Qubic’s mining pool. This caused Qubic’s hashrate to drop from around 40% to between 10% and 15% in July, showing a quick and unified response to prevent concentration of mining power.

In addition, the community also sought to strengthen pools like supportxmr.com to balance mining power and avoid the risk of centralization over the network. Qubic’s leader himself stated that the plan is a technical demonstration without malicious intent, although the risk alert was strong within the community. Therefore, the action **did not take Monero users and developers by surprise**, as they were already aware and mobilized against Qubic’s attempt.
