Their (not my) rationale amounts to inertia combined with the belief that they're getting free PR for their articles. To some extent the latter is true, but it comes at the cost of being part of a vile enterprise that wants, ultimately, to put them out of business.
But journalists rarely attempt to look much beyond right now (in either direction).
