i’ve always wondered why smaller artists remake famous artworks. what’s your reason?

yeah, the process of following all the lines helps you learn how you think the lines into being
The composition of the old masters is like too perfect, it’s classic. You might be thinking a painting is simple or going to be easy, then you start realizing that artist that composed the piece was a fucking genius
I mostly do originals, this is the first time I’ve done master works of the classics since highschool
I did a show called “The Counterfeit Collection “ it was an idea at first to do “bad” portrait style remakes of the classics. My first attempts were laughable, so I started trying to make them look close to the original, then I decided I would paint these with puffy fabric paint.
So I did about 30 of the most famous paintings, and had a show out in Seattle. Sold some of the work.
It was terrific practice as the other commenter mentioned. It was a great study. And it was highly salable work because of its familiarity.
