I am still thinking new people who arrive are not shown how great Nostr is, and they just get frustrated and leave.

Every Nostr client should have an on-boarding process that ends with check out these other great Nostr apps and services and link to Nostrapps.com or use the NIP for recommendations.
Yes, indeed. And I like to follow them also. As they likely have none or only one or two. (I can always unfollow them later if I dont like them) but at least they can see who I interact with and who the other active Nostriches are..that helps a ton.
