Interesting... I get chickens and rabbits... easy to raise, but ducks? Ducks can be hunted. What is the main benefit of raising ducks over chickens and rabbits?

ducks raised properly are nice, friendly birds. large eggs. bath water can be poured directly on our new trees in the peach orchard. they also can't get enough of grasshoppers, which will eat the trees.

but yes, I have to watch out for the bobcats and coyotes.

there is no way on God's green earth that my wife would allow me to kill a rabbit. if you don't eat the rabbit, what's the point?

Chickens are a plenty around here. we'll probably get some meat chickens later this year. My neighbor provides me with all the eggs I can eat until winter.

Thnx for the duck insights... rabbits are easy protein, and as they say, taste like chicken. But there is the cuteness factor one has to deal with when butchering.

And the screaming. It sounds terrible.

I hear you. When I was a kid, I had a rabbit cage outside my bedroom window. One night, I woke up to bunnies screaming... a neighbor's dog had ripped the floor out of the cage and was chowing down. Those screams haunted me for many years.

yeah, I hear they scream like children.
