I'd personally rather nostr adoption be bootstrapped quickly on white belt custodial lightning than slowly on black belt non-custodial lightning. It's not like the custodial option was randomly chosen as the advocated experience. When the risk is a couple dollars of zaps, you look like a hairshirt demanding everyone be as intractible as you.

And so it will be with Nostr Zaps. "Eh, it works so I'm not going to bother changing it ever."

Unfortunately I'm very confident years from now that the reliance on custodial zapping will look much the same as it does today.

I believe this will change over time. With multiple client devs looking at this problem differently, there will be multiple solutions.
