I've used mirotalk before (which this is based on) but the developer here has not of yet published the code publicly that I have seen. If/when that happens would be neat, otherwise yes -red flags abound.

Take a look at using zerotier, or tailscale, as your "vpn". The tech is slightly different from typical vpn tunneling. I use tailscale all the time, and am able to use hivetalk.
