$8.00 * 0.6 = $4.80

$8.00 + $4.80 = $12.80

$12.80 - $0.50 = $12.30

You are now paying $12.30 for a burger that existed 4 decades ago.

$0.50/$12.30 = 96% is roughly 2.3$ inflation on a year over year basis for 40 years (in simplistic, non-compounded terms).

FED inflation target is 2% inflation per year . . .

2% doesn't sound like much, does it?
