Maybe trust was not the correct word; you always are in control of your coins but you are using a third party service: they could collect data, they could be forced to provide data by other parties, they could shut down the service overnight, etc…

Moreover, Wasabi works with chain analysis companies while it is not so clear how anonymizing is Whirlpool considering that the majority of the users are not using their private full node and so Samourai knows the zpub of almost every users that use their services…

I think those are fair concerns.

I think Wasabi is build in way that they don’t know anything about you, right? nostr:npub1klkk3vrzme455yh9rl2jshq7rc8dpegj3ndf82c3ks2sk40dxt7qulx3vt

When I’m using Whirlpool I’m using it with my own node and a VPN. That should do the trick, shouldn’t it?

Regarding wasabi working with chain analysis. It’s a double edged sword imo. Yes, we don’t like chain analysis firms and right fully so. The thought behind working with them in the case of Wasabi could be to have an argument against law makers once they start to frame coinjoins as money laundering tools for criminals. Then Wasabi can say: “No, we check them before they are mixed. They are all fine.”

Fair and agreed but again, this is required because Wasabi needs a centralised entity to work and no one wants to go to jail for other people…

JoinMarket does not have this issue… and for me this is a big plus…
